Dining in Midtown (West)

I am staying overnight in New York City for business with my husband. Any suggestions on a nice dinner (romantic, formal and good food) not overpriced, or is this entirely impossible in the City?

I'm not sure "formal" and "not overpriced" go together in any city! Would a business-casual type of bistro or something like that be acceptable?

Following up on the previous post, how much do you want to spend? What part of midtown (west)?

I am staying at the Marriot Marquis on Broadway. I am willing to spend up to $100 for dinner and we are not really big drinkers so wine list is not all that important. Also any breakfast places other than the hotel in the area.
Appreciate any help.

I would recommend my favorite NYC restaurant, Chez Josephine on 42nd Street, just west of 9th Avenue, a 5-6 block walk from the hotel. $100 should cover dinner and tip, especially if you're not drinking. It's a French restaurant owned by two of Josephine Baker's rainbow children. One of them, Jean-Claude is the host and meeting him is part of the charm of the restaurant. Reservations a must (212-594-1925).
