We will be spending 5 days in Mashpee, with a rent car and wondered what are must see's and reasonable, yummy local spots to eat! If we take a day trip to Martha's Vineyard, where would you eat over there and how can you tour the island - not necessarily there to do shopping.

When will you be going? My mother in law and I are leaving Monday morning and are also staying in Mashpee. We are driving from Pittsburgh. We are planning on driving to Provincetown, take the whale watching cruise out of Barnstable, and spend one day on Martha's Vineyard. I have never been before--so I can't help with recommendations--others on this board have been very helpful, though.

Go to the Quahog Republic on Mashnee Island. Visit the wbsite for more info. It is a great family restaurant on the water next to the Cape Cod canal (We are partial to this location because we live a mile away). On the Vinyard there are many places to eat on the water but most are very expensive. The Seafood Shanty is nice for drinks on the upstairs deck and down the street is David Ryans for a more reasonable meal Both are in Edgartown. Oak Bluffs is nice too and if you prefer to have a adult beverage with your meal, then don't go to Vineyard Haven -- it's a dry town.

Thanks for the comments above. We are 4 adults who love good food, drinks and relaxing. Any other comments on places to see on the Cape or places to eat? We are not really athletic, but love sight seeing -- no shopping stuff. We will be there for a week in late July.

The Yarmouth House on Rt. 28 in W. Yarmouth and The Daniel Webster Inn on Main St. in Sandwich are my favorites. Both have excellent food and service.

Forgot to mention that the JFK museum on Main St. in Hyannis is worth a visit. Lots of interesting pictures.

Any suggestions for nice - but not too elegant or pricy - dining about midway betwen Yarmouth and Eastham? We'll be 8 adults - no kids.

Be sure to see Chatham!

We just ate at the Lobster Boat in Yarmouth, which we enjoyed. Good seafood, reasonable prices and located on a river (Parker River, I think.) First we stopped at Saltys but it was very noisy & crowded with young families.

I would also recommend Chatham. Provincetown is always interesting. I love the dunes along the National Seashore.

For food, I recommend ice cream from the Cape Cod Creamery.
