I'm considering a honeymoon trip to the Poconos. Need feedback. The trip will be in June. Thanks in advance!

allen,

You may want to read Fodors past hosted forum: Pennsylvania Pleasures, hosted by Doug Root (April 17-23, '00). There was a discussion regarding Poconos/honeymoon.

I am a Phila. native. While our state has much to offer, I would really think twice about a honeymoon trip to the Poconos. There are many charming areas of PA to consider: Bucks County, Brandywine Valley, etc. Think dept. of tourism 'hypes' Poconos on the unsuspecting. I would do deep research if you are strongly considering.
Perhaps other Fodorites would chime in.

Many years ago, I went to the Poconos on my honeymoon. I have since visited there at a friend's condo. I would not recommend this for a honeymoon. It was not our choice for a honeymoon when we went - and while the mountains are pretty - the places were not so good. There are so many great places for honeymoons in the US - if you want mountains, look at Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine. I would definitely not pick the Poconos......

While I have not stayed at any of the resorts in this area, I drove through there a couple of weeks ago on a self-directed fall foliage tour. It is beautiful countryside, but I did not see anything that impressed me as a honeymoon location.

In the back of bridal mags you will find ads for Poconos Ceaser resorts (champagne glass hot tubs in rooms). You can order a video of the resorts. It is VERY campy and VERY humorous. Could be a great time.

Hi Allen,

I think most of us from Pennsylvania will agree that the Poconos area is very pretty and a nice place to drive through or ski. The places that cater to Honeymooners however have become as tt mentioned "campy" - most places are either really tacky or totally conference oriented. Also, if you go in June check the date as there is a big Nascar Winston Cup race scheduled. This of course could be good or bad - depending on what your looking for. Whatever you decide have fun.

Hi Allen

We went to the Poconos back in "94" for our honeymoon. We enjoyed the place. We actually went in October and it was beautiful with the fall colors. We drove 10 hrs from Michigan. They have activities daily. You'll receive a daily itenary under your door. They have shows in the evening. We did not have the room with the champagne tub, but we had a heart shaped tub in our room. Our room was overlooking the lake.
We stayed at Paradise Stream (if I remember correctly). It's a romantic place. During dinner you'll be seated with about 6 other couples.Reminds me of a cruise, just not on water.
Have fun!

Allen,

I manage a hotel in the Poconos. If you're looking for a great destination I suggest you do your homework first. As in any area, there are many fine resorts, hotels, inns and B& B's here in the Poconos'. Some cater to honeymooners, some are literally "couples only" and others are family oriented.

You might best start your search through the Pocono Mountains Vacation Bureau, at www.800poconos.com

Then, you can visit each property's web page for the details. I'm certsin you'll enjoy yourself. Just be SURE to do your research FIRST. You know what you're looking for, so look aroud and find it. If it's not here, well, at least you know that you tried.

Have a great trip...and...Congrats!

Paul

I'd look into going to the New England States. There you could enjoy the mountains of NH and VT and the beaches of Maine and NH. You could also plan a trip to Boston, which in my opinion is the most enjoyable city in the country.

Try the Skytop Lodge in the Poconos. My husband and I spent 3 days there last October. We absolutely loved it.
