We are family of 8, everyone is almost adult planning a 10 - 12 day long long road trip from Detroit, MI to Florida but still undecided on the route we should take, towns to visit and make night stay. Can anyone suggest...

I-75

MY sister and her family go to florida every January from Ohio and just go directly down I75 to the west coast of Florida.
A map should be pretty clear what to do.

Highway I75 from Detroit is a good route which I have taken numerous times. There is an excellent book by Canadian author Dave Hunter called "Along Interstate 75". It tells stories, places to visit, speed limits and other valuable information to make your trip fun.

With 2 SUV's, get a pair of walkie talkies and pick a channel that is not busy.
If someone needs a stop the other vehicle can be notified without using cell phones.

tomfuller, why on earth shouldn't they use their cell phones? We used walkie-talkies in the way you describe--in the 1990's!

I've still got mine. They were very handy when we moved two cars from PA to Oregon in 2005.
There are quite a few places in Oregon where cell phones don't work.

You could stop in Asheville, NC for the night. Very pretty there at Christmas.
