Need Restaurant suggestions for Spring Break. Would like ideas for casual and fine dining as well as good take-out places.

The Red Bar in Grayton Beach has great food and is the most unique by far. Prices are very reasonable. Crab Trap, Back Porch and Pompano Joe's in Destin are also good, inexpensive and right on the beach. Bud and Ally's in Seaside is great for something a bit nicer. Personally I liked the food better at the Red Bar. Don't miss Donut Hole for breakfast or dessert.

Thanks for the info, Chimiler. We will go to Bud and Alleys for an adult night out w/o the kids. What type of food does the Red Bar serve? Is it a place we would want to take our teenagers, or more adult only? As far as the Donut Hole... do they serve only donuts and pastries or do they offer egg dishes? If not, any suggestions on a good place for an omelet?

Bud and Alleys is a bit more formal and you'll need reservations -- definitely a date night place. Red Bar is hard to describe, but it would great teenagers. Actually Picolo's Restaurant is in one room and the Red Bar is attached. The menu changes daily and is written on chalkboards. Fresh fish, chicken, pasta -- and its all good. They had a live three piece jazz band last we were there. Crap Trap and the Back Porch are slightly less casual, but still serve sandwiches and fries. I believe Donut Hole did have omelets, but certainly your basic eggs, toast and coffee. It seems to be a local hang out in the morning -- construction workers don't do well on just sugar. San Destin area may have more in the way of "nice" breakfasts.

If you're going to be there on Saturday night be sure to go to Seaside. Usually they have a band playing in the park area. Very family friendly. If you haven't been to the area, Seaside is about 25 minutes or so east of Destin and just past Grayton Beach. It is a quaint little beach community with local shops, galleries and eateries. It's more like Key West than Panama City. The beaches are also extremely well kept. West of Destin about 15 minutes is Fort Walton which has a lot amusement rides and bad t-shirt shops. I think Ft. Walton want to be Panama City -- oh, I do not waste the hour drive to Panama City Beach. Tell the kids its closed if you have to.

Thanks for the info. I'm very familiar with Panama City Beach. Went there twice last year. My brother and his family live there. I'm keeping the teenagers away for there so they don't get exposed to all the crazy college spring breakers! Told my brother they can drive over to visit us!

How about a place for oysters on the half shell? We loved Hunts in Panama City. I guess any of the restaurants you mentioned would offer them, but anywhere that would be special?
