Denali National Park: Mosquitos?

hello all,

we are heading to alaska on friday and will be in denali mon-thu, staying at the kantishna roadhouse. is it still heavy mosquito season? planning to bring the insect repellant but wondering if we should bring head nets as well for hikes.

the mosquitoes should have thinned out by now and the roadhouse will have a supply of headnets if you need.

You are in for a special treat being that deep in Denali. The wildlife you will see on the 5 hour busride will astound you, guaranteed.

Check the prices for lodging in the park on the poster board at the trainstation. If you have paid in advance you will find out how cheap it is to wait till you get there to sign up. You save more than 50% by doing it this way.

Aloha!

Hawaiiantraveler, would you please explain this:

"Check the prices for lodging in the park on the poster board at the trainstation. If you have paid in advance you will find out how cheap it is to wait till you get there to sign up. You save more than 50% by doing it this way."

I don't understand what you mean. Thank you!

At the trainstation when you arrive at Denali they have posters on the board with advertisments for Katishna Roadhouse and Denali Backcountry Lodge(the one I stayed in). These advertisments are at least 50% off from the brochures and website prices. You can call the number on the poster and make reservations for that day.

I was told by the guy who works at the station that they rarely sell out(except midsummer) so they sell their excess rooms very cheaply. I guess better to get someone in the empty room at a cheaper price than no one at 0 dollars

Wish I had known before I went.

Aloha!
