Denali hotels

For a 50th anniversary trip in June we would like to indulge ourselves. The Denali Princess - our first choice - is full. We are both in good health, but do not look forward to climbing a mountain with our luggage to register at a hotel or to return after dinner. Which is better for us: Denali Bluffs or Grande Denali Lodge?

Denali Bluffs and Grande Denali owned by same people. They have a shuttle that will pick you up. The Grande Denali is much newer and modern, but I prefer the Bluffs.

Why do you prefer the Bluffs?
Can you have breakfast and/or dinner at either?
Are they both at the top of a steep hill?

There is another riverside hotel you may want to look into, Denali River Cabins. (web: denalrivercabins.com) If you buy the Milepost Book, it will give you an idea of other accomodations in the area. I stayed at the Princess. The hillside across the road is very steep. Also, try the Princess website again for cancellations. It's very nice.

Will you have a car??? Both are very nice hotels with the views from the Grand just excellent, as mentioned- both offer shuttles. The Bluff is closer to the "strip" of shopping. You aren't missing anything not staying at the Denali Princess- this property is only so so at best, my opinion only. I have been staying at Touch of Wilderness B&B the last few times. Wonderful lodging with a car. - cheap too

For me, the Bluffs just had more of an Alaska feel to it. The Grand is very high up on a hill and if I remember correctly, some of the rooms don't have a view because of the way the hotel built. It is a lovely hotel though if you are looking to pamper yourself while in Alaska. There are restaurants at both hotels, the Bluff being casual and Grande has fancier dining. The view at the Grande is awesome though. You should take the time to go up there even if you don't stay there. I don't care for the Princess either, but they also have restaurants there you can eat at.
