Deli's near Sheraton NYC

I am very excited to be taking my 7 yr old to NYC over the holidays to experience the magic of Christmas in NYC. We are staying at the Sheraton Manhattan and would like to try to get some recommendations for near by, deli's. Thanks!

Define "deli".

There are two definitions in NYC:

1. A small corner or convenience store (also called a bodega or Korean grocer) that sells drinks, sandwiches, snacks, produce, etc.

2. A sit-down restaurant specializing in Jewish delicacies such as pastrami, knishes, etc.

The most famous would be Carnegie Deli. Personally, I'm a bigger fan of Ben-Ash Deli across the street.

As QC stated, there are different types of 'deli' in NYC.

Both Carnegie and Stage Delis are just north of the hotel on Seventh Avenue.

Jbrowne, sometimes I shake my head.

It seems pretty clear to me that you are not asking about Korean grocery stores as an adventure for a little kid.

Anyway, Carnegie is where I'd take a seven-year old. Unless the kid is a really big eater, remember that portions are big so sharing makes a lot of sense.

A restaurant called America is a place little kids would find interesting, with statues and kids menus, too. But its a fair distance from the hotel. Carnegie is nearby.

And if you get as far as SoHo, the Tennessee Mountain House has lots of kid-friendly food plus great ribs for grownups. Usually lots of local kids eating there with their parents, too.

I think taking kids to NY is a very nice thing to do, and you'll have as much fun with the magic as the chiold does.

BAK,

Thanks for the great advice. Your absolutely right, with a small child I was not thinking ethnic grocery store.

You HAVE to do Ellen's Stardust Diner, just what a kid would love, and all the servers are aspiring singers, so you will get to hear them sing. The food is typical diner, and pretty good, and the chocolate shakes are soooo good.

Ellen's Stardust is not far on Broadway just south of Mama Mia, at the Wintergarden Theatre.
