Deciding between hotels

I'm down to the Shelbourne vs Doubletree Surfcomber, mainly becsue we want a good sized pool, and to be in the center of things. Rates are over $200 at each and we would like to make the best pick. Any advice?

My guess is South Beach?

I've stayed at the Doubletree Surfcomber and can tell you that there is nothing Doubletree about it except the name. It is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in in a long time. Service, furnishings, room, property, and location were all excellent.

Both the Shelbourne and the Surfcomber are very near each other with the Shelbourne being about a block north. Great location right in the Lincoln Road Mall area. Both hotels are oceanfront with pools which is a rarity in South Beach. Because the ocean is so far away from the hotels, even though they are oceanfront, you have to get a room above the tree line for ocean views.

For what its worth, I've never had a room in South Beach with an ocean view and I've been there hundreds of times.

I don't know if you realize this or not but The Shelbourne is also a condo building and you may be able to get a condo of VRBO.com for around the same price.

Of the two properties, I like the Doubletree Surfcomber but again, I have not stayed at The Shelbourne.

onthego..Just curious what your dates are.The DT Surfcomber is often a host hotel for a variety of "festivals" of sorts.Personally, I would avoid any hotel that is a "host" to any sort of festival.Just my HO.....
