DC - weekend or weekday less crowded for sightseeing?

Hi,

We will be in DC in mid-Sept. We'll be there a Th - Tues and I am trying to figure out what to do each day so I can order tickets ahead of time for what we can. Is it more crowded at the Smithsonian museums (Air/Space, Natl Hist, Am Hist), and National Archives on the weekend or weekdays? Or does it not matter - it's always crowded, lol?

Thanks for any advice.

In Sept., I'd expect bigger crowds on weekends.

I agree with Anonymous. In mid-September, it will be too early for the hordes of school groups during the week, so the weekends will be busier. Mid-September is actually a good time to be here since the summer crowds have gone; the school groups haven't arrived; and the weather is generally nice.
