DC/Baltimore/Newport, RI driving route

We're taking the autotrain to WAshington this summer, spending a couple nights with friends, driving to Baltimore and spending the night with friends, then heading for Newport/Middletown. Any suggestions as to routes? I rather spend a bit more time driving and avoid traffic.

There is little bit of traffic before around baltimore but I-95 is gets better after Baltimore. Take that to the I-295 accross the Delaware Memorial Bridge and on to the New Jersey Turnpike. They seperate the cars and trucks on the NJT, so you don't have to drive with the tractor-trailors. Hop on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, which is a scenic route along the Hudson River, hop on another which forget the name of but it is the Tampon Zee Bridge, so you avoid downtown New York, then take the Marrot Parkway for a good distance, then hop back over to I-95. I forget the route exactly, but get some maps and take a look at this route.

Bige1430- good job bringing a post over a year old, about a trip that is long over, to the top.

In your own words, "cmon guy"!
