I want be so p.c. with this post. My wife and I and our four daughters are planning a visit to D.C. As with any large city, I'm sure there are areas we should avoid. Those that are not considered safe or tourist friendly. I would appreciate any advise and I apologize in advance if I offend anyone.

There's very little chance that a tourist will wander into a bad neighborhood. My suggestion would not to wander far off the main streets on Capitol Hill. If you go to U Streeet or Shaw, don't wander more than a couple of blocks from the main thoroughfares.

Totally agree with MikeT. And just to be extra clear, the parts of Capitol Hill a tourist would go to are totally safe, you'd have to walk several blocks off the beaten path before it gets dicey, and you'd know you were off track. There's really nothing to worry about.
