Day Trip from New Orleans: Plantations, Lunch....help!
We will pick up a friend at the airport at 9:30 AM and head out west
to tour (or visit) a 3-4 plantations and have lunch. Heading back to N.O.
for happy hour, dinner, etc;
We did this before back in 1993. We ate at ' the Cabin' near
Burnside, LA.
Any advice on the top 3-4 Plantations? (Oak Alley for sure)
Should we have lunch at a plantation and if so which one?
We enjoyed "The Cabin" restaurant. Is it good or am I remembering
the experience....
Any advice or itinerary would be greatly appreciated!! We would like to
be back in the F.Quarter for drinks and dinner. I don't want to be exhausted,
so let me know if this is "do able".
Thanks!!

I strongly recommend a tour of Laura Plantation www.lauraplantation.com. We took the tour last month and found it very informative. After that tour we had lunch at B & C Seafood. While this place may not appeal to everyone we enjoyed our meal of shrimp po-boys, fried alligator, crawfish stew and a delicious bread pudding. After that we headed to Oak Alley for the tour. We had to get to the airport by 5 pm so we were rushed and missed a chance to sip a mint julep on the porch and stroll the grounds at a more leisurely pace.
I think touring 3 - 4 plantations may be a little much. Make your list and then take your time enjoying each plantation rather than trying to rush through four.

Thanks, I think you are right. 3-4 is too many.
Our friend has never seen any of them, so I wanted to show
him Oak Alley for sure. I will investigate Laura.
I remember Desharhan (?) and Homus House, but HH is the
farthest one if I remember correctly.
B and C sounds pretty good!

Laura was one of my all time favorite house tours. It's been quite a few years since we were there, but we also ate lunch at B&C Seafood. It was just a concrete block shack of a place, but everything we had was really fresh and good.

We are home. We ended up going to Destrehan (tour) and then Oak Alley. We got to O.A. at 2:30 just before they stopped searving lunch.
So, we enjoyed a nice lunch! My catfish dinner was fantastic and HUGE!! EASY for two to share. omg. Someone ordered the apps trio, salad, drinks, roll me out......the waitress gave two of us drinks to "go". (we had someone driving).
We had FANTASTIC weather on May 14th: cool (75) and low humidity. The O.A. tour was great, wonderful property.
We got back to N.O. around 6:30. Too full to go out to dinner!
Next trip we will go to Laura plantation. Two plantations was perfect. There was no way we could have done more and enjoyed the day.
