Day In Detroit, what to do.

Okay, I'm in NYC and I got this really great deal on spirit airlines tickets for $1 each way but the only $2 roundtrip fare I could get was a fly in the morning return the evening for $22 tax included.

I will be renting a car but I have no idea what to do or where to go. I suspect I would have about 9 hours in detroit so would like advise on where to go.

The biggest attaction in Detroit is the Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village. The Museum has a fantastic transportation collection including all the Presidental Limos. The Village has historic buildings brought from all over the country including Edison's laboratory from NJ, the Wright Brothers' House and Cycle Shop from Dayton and the Logan County Courty House where Lincoln practiced law. Check their site at www.hfmgv.org.

Other possibilities could be the Motown Museum or the Detroit Institute of Arts which has an excellent set of murals by Diego Rivera.

What date will you be in town?

Are you interested in museums, fine dining, outdoor activities, history, cars, shopping, art, sports, zoo, etc?

I'll be there December 4th coming in around 8am leaving 12hrs later. I'm more into sports and will probably just be doing christmas shopping. We had consider going to canada but that would kill too much time. So will probably stick to driving around the city, checking a few malls.. we'll see. However if it's snowing that day I'll stay put in NY.. heck for two of us the tickets cost less than $45

Go to Birmingham too. Great little upscale walking town. Shopping, restaurants, etc.

Birmingham is wonderful. I love to go there and shop, enjoy the restaurants, etc. If you like shopping you might also like the nearby Somerset Mall in Troy - I love it and go every time I am there. Very upscale. If you like museums and the like, Greenfield Village is wonderful and it is also fun to tour the Henry Ford Home in Dearborn and the Edsel and Eleanor Ford home is Grosse Point is also interesting. I think Frankenmuth is a bit too far to go for just a quick day - it is doable but doubt it is worth it when there are many things to do in the Greater Detroit Area. Have fun!!
