Dallas public transportation

We will be in Dallas for 1 day and would like to visit the SMU campus. Is it easy to get to and from the airport (DFW) without a long walk ?
We usually rent a car but it seems a waste of time and money ( over $100 for one day) if we can manage without it.

Yikes! No, you couldn't get from DFW to SMU by walking! It would NOT be a waste of time and/or money to rent a car; you can't manage without one.

Of course, that's only my opinion. Hopefully if someone else disagrees they'll post, too.

Not sure what maps you are looking at but SMU is about 25 miles from DFW. And from the airport you can;t walk to anything - it's in between Dallas and Fort Worth - in the middle of a bunch of highways.

Yes, you can get from DFW to SMU on public transportation. It will take you approx. 2 hours (longer on Sunday).

Here is a DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) trip planner. It will tell you what routes, method and length of walking involved.

http://tripplan.dart.org/

When you reach SMU, I assume there will be a lot of walking involved seeing the campus.

You can also call DART and they will help you plan your trip. Then you can decide if you want to rent a car. Traffic can be horrendous right now due to a lot of major construction on the freeways.

Eventually DART trains will run directly from the DFW, which will put Dallas on the map for public transportation in Texas.

Thanks everyone! I should have made it clear I meant using public transportation without a long walk to and from the campus from the closest station !!
I think we will skip it this time and plan a longer trip in the future, renting a car but also using DART in the downtown area! Appreciate your helpful tips

take a cab. it is not that expensive...$50? and well worth the hassles, if you are not going to rent a car, which would be my first choice. tough town to deal only with public transportation, imho.

I got that. Dunno why others did not.

But the idea of either a cab or public transport is daft. It's a car culture here. There should be deals for < 100. Check Enterprise.
