Dallas-need recommendations

I will be in Dallas later this week and need restaurant and things to do down by the convention center. Any great ideas? We need inexpensive quick restaurants and some sit down restaurants. Are there plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the convention center? I am feeding teenagers.

There's almost nothing within walking distance in Dallas - period. There are plenty of chain restaurants nearby though, I think the teeagers will like the Papa chains such as Pappasitos. http://www.pappasitos.com/home/
Other affordable chains would be Corner Cafe & Bakery, or Cafe Express, or La Duni http://www.laduni.com/bakingstudio/index.htm

The Dallas Arboretum should be fun for teenage girls: http://www.dallasarboretum.org/index.htm

I always love the Dallas Museum of Art & the Nasher Sculpture Center; not sure if those teenagers like art.

The Sixth Floor Museum is a must: http://www.jfk.org/

Thank You! It also looks like we can take DART red line from the hotel area. Any recommendations via the DART stops?

I really would suggest you rethink about having a car while you're in Dallas. Which hotel are you staying at? Perhaps I can think of more dining options knowing exactly where you're staying.

If you really do not want a car, you will be better off staying along the McKinney trolley line. You can ride the trolley for free, and there are plenty of restaurants, boutiques and shops along the line. http://www.mata.org/

We are staying at the Hyatt Regency. We will be at the convention center most of the time for the kids tournament. We need recommendations close by to feed them. Teenage boys expect to be fed!
I will look in to the trolley. Thanks!

From the Hyatt Regency, you can walk to the West End District. There are plenty of affordable family restaurants. http://www.dallaswestend.org/index.aspx

It's also walking distance to the 6th floor museum which I mentioned in the earlier post.

You can walk or take the Red or Blue DART Rail lines to the West End Area....Sonny Bryan's is fairly inexpensive BBQ (www.sonnybryans.com). There's also the Spaghetti Warehouse, TGI Fridays, and Chipotle. Dallas World Aquarium is a bit of a walk from West End, but might be interesting to the teens. Dallas Holocaust Museum is close to the West End and JFK stuff, too.

You can take the Green line to Fair Park for gardens, an aquarium (don't know how big), and the Women's Museum (fairpark.org). Red line to the Dallas Zoo. For an Uptown experience, ride the Blue or Red line to Mockingbird station (www.mockingbirdstation.com/). $4 for an all day pass for DART.

One other thing. Shopping and pretty good restaurants are at NorthPark. You have to take a shuttle from the Red DART line Park Ln station, but it's a better choice than Mockingbird Station in my opinion. www.dart.org/riding/npshuttle.asp
