Cumbre/Toltec RR in Chama

We are considering taking this mountain RR ride. It is a long day. Is it cool or will we just come back with sore butts?

Lizzy, it all depends on your perspective. My husband and I enjoy riding old steam trains, and this was a beautiful route through mountains. It's a long day and the lunch stop is rather untilitarian but it's the only place to get food. If long slow rides through the west bore you, don't do this one. If you love the history and sceanry, then enjoy the ride.

Lizzy, it is a fantastic experience. Better yet, they allow you free access around the 'yard' at Chama. Arrive early to watch the train prep. Can take several variations of the trip. Can go from Chama, NM all the way to Antonito, CO & return by bus (or vice versa). Can also take trip from either end to mid way, stop for lunch & return via train. May even have some more variations. The scenery is GREAT and the train ride a fantastic experience. Need two days - one to ride & one to 'chase' & photo. Phone for reservations: (505) 756-2151

When any of you were in Chama did you check out any of the hotels? We are planning a trip and booked two locations and they are The Chama Station and Cumbres Suites Lodge. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

What is the best side of the train to sit when traveling from Chama to Osier?
