crested butte to grand junction: best route?

we will be travelling in colorado in AUgust. We will be in crested butte and then have to drive to grand junction for our flight back to boston. What is the best (quickest) route?
Looks like there is a mountain road north and then we could go west? Or should we drive back to gunnison and montrose and then go north? How long is the trip? thanks

You need to go to Gunnison and Montrose and go north. I don't know what mountain road you are thinking of-The only one I can think of is the Kebler Pass Road to Paonia. It is a graded dirt road, scenic, but slow. No advantage going that way. There is no mountain road directly north. The dirt road after Crested Butte is a treacherous 4WD road.
