I'm here in Honolulu, too. 14 days till I board the plane for Munich--19 days till the Prague Marathon. I'm so happy I could cry! (Because I know I have to come home.)

Kal and Susan Spike: Hawaiian Air can give you a lower rate on line and even lower if you fly each way Mon-Thurs. You can actually get that SMF to Hon down to $366 plus tax and fees unless that's what Susan was referring to in her $385 ticket price.

Suzie and Kal, we bit the bullet last night and bought those $385 tix out of Sacramento! That was online Suzie, where you get an additional 5% off. I was worried I wouldn't find any better closer to home, since that's when all the kids are getting out of school.

We're going to stay at the Embassy Suites the night we come home and I'm hoping they will still let us do the free parking thing. Any sage words of advice here?

45 more days, e-tickets in hand!!! I can smell the SPF30!

Susan that's the Embassy Suites that's just opening near old sac? They are letting you park there free? Is that right? They have a shuttle? Guess I don't understand where you are parking your car. SMF is such a breeze. Large food court after security checkpoint but no plastic knives to cut up large food pieces. That cracks me up!

Yes, Suzie, it's the one just opening June 2002. They claim to have a shuttle and free parking. Do you think we should stay closer to the airport? Do you have a recommendation? Glad to hear it is an easy airport. We get in at 11:20pm on the return flight so I'm hoping the hotel will let us park before our stay there. Does this make sense?

Ok got it. You know with it being so close to I 5 I doubt there would be any benefit to a closer hotel. We'd be talking about a time savings of maybe 5 minutes. I can't think of any hotel along I 5 there in Sacto that would give you any real benefit and none up or down 80 either. Good choice. The renderings of the hotel look really gorgeous and the art budget for the hotel was nearly $800,000. I'd like to see what hey got for that!

PARTY AT THE EMBASSY! :^))
Agree w/ Suuuuz about staying there. If you're flying out of Sac metro (I have to be careful using airport initials now!) it's about a 5-10 min drive up I-5 to the airport. Some minor a.m. airport traffic but it flies up the I'state.

Plus, there are a lot of better restaurants to pick from the night before near the Emabssy in Old Sac/Downtown Plaza area than there are if you stay at the hotel at the airport.

Out of what terminal will Hawaiian fly? A or B? I think A has the good food court (Is there a "good food court" in ANY airport?).
I heard the Embassy was supposed to be open in time for the Jazz Fest in May?
We got our room booked for 2 nights at the Sheraton Grand for the J'Fest. Hadda blast last year and one night wasn't enuff.

Kal ya got your white shoes and matching belt lined up yet? Ha ha just kidding. We always look for the bands that play more blues, less traditional jazz. Honey Drippers perhaps! We kinda stay away from the Disneyland sound! Trip report on the Grand please!!!!

Suuuuz, Before we get yelled at, we stayed away from the Jazz Fest for around 20+ yrs due to them having Dixieland Jazz only. We went last year when we found out they now have Blues, Rock and Roll, Zydeco, Jazz, Big Band, Peruvian, Steel Drum or just about everything.
Mumbo Gumbo rules! (Gotta root for our "local accordian boy"). Capitol Jazz Project too.
