I live in No. Texas, he lives in So. Florida - we've been to most states and over 50 countries. Just looking for a 'cool' place to go for a long weekend in August - USA only. Enjoy outdoor activities as well as in. Love going to museums, festivals, atheletic outings also...doing anything which makes the location unique. I know all of you can suggest great places where the temp will be no higher than 70 during the day. Already going to Alaska this Summer so looking for something in the lower 48.

San Francisco, Seattle, Portland. Not always less than 70, but at least sometimes in the mid-60s. Rarely higher than 80. Earlier in August rather than closer to Sept.

San Francisco is a great idea--it is unique and surprisingly cool in August. Seattle, and especially Portland, can be hot in August.

Thank you for the replies. I was born and raised in CA so I've been to San Fran many times. I'm definitely open to Portland and even Seattle, can you suggest any areas outside these main cities that would be enjoyable?

Don't know if you want to travel this far, but have you given Wisconsin a thought - I might suggest Door County, which has some unique shops and a lot of activity; however, I prefer Bayfield and the Apostle Islands up near Lake Superior. You could fly into Minneapolis. It is about 3 to 4 hours away - but I my opinion the Apostle Islands(22 and Madeline Island) are the undiscovered gem. Their is lots to do for a family - shops, water activities, hiking, entertainment, etc.
