I'm looking for a beachfront suite or a condo in the Clearwater Beach, Florida area.
I've searched this site and have visited Frommer's, but I've come up with hotels only.
I'm posting again here in hopes of getting some help and/or advice. Travel agent only knows of hotels.
Are condos available? If so, how can I find one?
Will travel next February and will need accomodations for 1 week.

I quickly checked it out, I will need to spend some serious time there!

I called and spoke to representative @Sheraton Sand Key. Location sounds great, but rooms are small and suites are over $400. a night. Considering the Radisson Sand key, all suite resort. It's on the Bay, a stroll away from the beach. Everything is a trade-off! More space, but farther away from the beach.

Has anyone out there stayed @the Radisson Sand Key?

Claire - is your heart set on Clearwater Beach? Maybe rates are more reasonable down the coast (Indian Rocks, Madeira Beach, etc) We stayed at Pelican's Cove in Indian Rocks but they require 2 week minimum.

I guess my answer to that question would be "not really", I'm willing to browse down the coastline.
Have heard of Madeira Beach, and checked my atlas to see others.
I just thought Clearwater sounded like a good spot for my family, with places like Crabby Bill's to eat and such. We're a family that likes to be busy and have fun, but I would prefer moderate to upscale accomodations that are gulf front and clean.
I've read about the Don Cesar (now, this is too upscale for us) and the Tradewinds resorts @St. Pete's Beach. I understand the trolley runs between St. Pete's Beach and Clearwater. Is this correct?
We'll have a rental car, but really don't want to have to drive everyday while on vacation. We enjoy eating at new and different restaurants each night.
Do you have any other suggestions?

Claire - I've stayed several times at the Radisson Sand Key and each time was less satisfactory than the time before. The last time we looked at 4 rooms before getting what we'd requested. At that time, the property was really getting rundown and the service was shoddy at best. The configuration of the rooms is more like a small Embassy Suites. Very small living area, microwave, small refrigerator. The proximity to the beach wasn't a problem for us, though...we just drove over. To further to confuse the issue, we walked over to the Sheraton Sand Key and weren't impressed with what we saw there either. Like lots of property on the beach, it was threadbare looking. This info is several years old, so hopefully someone will provide you with something more current.

The posts here at the Fodor's site are dated 1999 & 2000 on the Radisson.
I wasn't psyched about not being directly on the Gulf anyway.

I've read that northern Clearwater beach is more quiet, and then south of Sand Key is also nice. Everyone has their own favorite! I'll keep looking, it's half the fun!
