Commute question?

Hi
I will be in Rye New York for business in July. One weekday I need to drive to Melville on Long Island for a 10 a.m. meeting which will last until 1. How long will my commute be by car at those times of the day.
Thanks for any help.

I would plan on 2 hours in the morning, probably a bit shorter in the afternoon. You just never know if there will be an accident etc. that can hold you up.

What an awful drive in the morning rush hour. I'd seriously consider going the night before & spending the night near Melville. Or make the meeting later in the day if you can.

I would say it would be 2-3 hours by car, most of the traffic will be going from Rye into Queens in the morning. In the afternoon might be easier. Just be sure to take the Throgs Neck Bridge into Queens, as this will leave you closest to Long Island.

The only other option wold be to take the Metro North train from Rye to Grand Central, walk to Penn Station to take a LIRR train to Melville, but this option would probably take about the same amount of time.

Like McLaurie said, your best bet is to drive to Long Island the night before and get a hotel nearby the meeting.

Thanks for the info. I think I will try to reschedule or plan on arriving the night before.

It is about 45 miles from Rye to Melville. Trip should take in the vicinity of 1 1/2 hours, less if traffic is lighter than normal at the bridge crossing.
