Columbus, Ohio: Palace Theater area?
I may visit for a concert the first week in December. Is this theater in a nice part of town, also what safe, clean budget chain motel might be nearby? What else would be nice to see in a 3-day, 2-night visit? Never been to Ohio so will see something new! Will it likely be "snowy" there yet at that time of year? Thanks for any ideas and comments you might have !

Palace theater is in the heart of downtown. You should be safe. The Palace theater is a turn of the century venue that has been renovated. I think you will be pleased. Two blocks north of the Palace is an area called the arena district. There is a Hampton and Courtyard in this area that typically are reasonably priced. Both the arena district and nearby short north have many restaurants that are good. Columbus can get snow in early December. Not reliable but possible. The Easton area N of Columbus airport is a popular shopping, dining and entertainment venue that would be a 15 minute drive from the arena district. Columbus has a nice Museum of Art, Center of Science and Industry and a wonderful zoo. The zoo is an outdoor setting about 30 minutes from the arena district. Be prepared for a cool visit, but enjoyable never the less. One hour south of Columbus is the Hocking Hills State Parks area. If you are a hiker, these parks are beautiful year round. Ohio State will have basketball games and the Columbus Blue Jackets will be playing hockey while you are in town. The first Saturday of every month is a Gallery Hop in the short north area. A three city block area has 30 ot 40 galleries to visit that's a popular local event.

Exactly what is the Brewery District that I've heard mentioned, and is the German Village a residential area or shopping area or what? Are there German restaurants/shops, that kind of thing, or are we just speaking of the people who settled the area?

German Village is a 1900's residential area with daytime shopping and popular restaurants. German Village would be five minutes south of the arena district hotels by car, and probably further than you would want to walk in December. There are several casual bratwurst and beer places including Schmidts and Deibels. A nicer German restaurant is the Mennecor. The area has a diverse selection of restaurant types with Handke's at the top of the fine food category and Linde's, Barcelona and Tony's in the moderate range but very nice.
