Colorado Temps in Late August?

Hi. We are going to Colorado the last week of August and plan on sojourning to Pikes Peak, Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park, and on to mountain 4x4 trails, ghost towns, etc. What kind of weather and temperatures can we expect at altitude there? We are not sure what kind of clothing to pack for that time of year. Thanks for any guidance!

Maybe highs in the low 70s F and lows in the mid-40s F. Bring long sleeve shirts and a jacket.

Much hotter in the day during peak summer. It looks like highs are in the 80s this week. Right that is still gets freezing cold at night, especially if you are staying at high altitude.

You'll need more sunscreen than usual. Its also very dry, so I suggest bringing lip balm that has sunscreen qualities. Most places in the resort mountains have no air conditioning, even many of the luxury hotels. Just the way it is.

You could easily have temperatures from the 80's down to the 30's on the same day, plus wind. Packing is all about layers. More thin layers are better than fewer thick layers. Make sure the outer layer is wind resistant and waterproof. Don't bring a cheap poncho.

Also bring sunblock, a sun hat and possibly a sun shirt. Expect anything. It's been quite hot up here where I live (8,400 feet) so far this August (over 90F a few days), but today has been nice and cool - 56F when we walked this morning and 71F now....but that's due to an unusual day of rain and fog after several hot dry days.

The higher you go, the cooler it will be. Pikes Peak will be chilly and windy; possibly quite cold.
