Colorado fall foliage - when and where?

I am trying to plan a vacation to Colorado that will coincide with the peak time for the aspens to be at their prettiest. I know they are turning already, but where and how much? What elevation? Any guesses on when they will peak? I would love to hear reports from anywhere in the state. Thanks!

For Summit County next weekend. The Aspens are already turning and we had snow this weekend. It is very early. Lower elevations will, of course, be later.

Aspen are turning earlier than usual in SW Colorado, too. The Forest Service is estimating that peak colors between Durango and Ouray will happen around the third week of September. (Usual is around September 30.)

We drove up Squaw Pass this weekend and I'd say half of the trees have already changed.

Since 1981, I've lived in Colorado, and the aspens ALWAYS seem to be a hit or miss thing for me. Try Guanella Pass between Georgetown and Grant, or further from Denver is the area around Buena Vista/Salida, such as St. Elmo. Vail has some really nice aspens if they don't get frozen or wiped out by wind.

Keystone is just beautiful right now! I think you still have a good week or two to get a glimpse. I'm going to drive to the Maroon Bells and then over Independence Pass tomorrow. I'll report back what I find.
