Colorado accommodation
Hi
My wife and I will be travelling around Colorado in August. After spending a few nights in Denver (hotel already booked), we will be spending 3/4 nights in each of the following - RMNP, Durango and Colorado Springs areas. We would appreciate some recommendations for good, clean accommodation, with a touch of luxury.
With thanks
Stevie

Durango surprised me in the number of hotels - none looked that great to me but surely there must be. We stayed at the Holiday Inn on our one night journey through - it was not great. Looked like the DoubleTree might have been a better bet. Hope on your trip you travel between Ouray and Silverton - the scenery is spectacular!

Stevie,
For something special and historic charm, try either the General Palmer Hotel or The Strater, both in downtown Durango. I have stayed at the General Palmer and it is lovely.
Doubletree is good, but nothing special.
Hope this helps...

Hi bigstevie,
Perhaps I can be of help with Durango.
Last fall, we stayed at a lovely condominium complex about 1 mile up from the main street of Durango. If you have a car, it's perfect. If no car, don't stay here.
Here's the link:

At least as of last fall, they were the only condo complex that would rent single days at a time (we stayed 2 nights). Prices were very reasonable, and it's a condo so you get so much more room than just a hotel room. It was a lovely place, very clean, quiet, everything you'd need was provided.
Hope this helps.
Happy travels!

Also, just thought of: Best Western and Fairfield Inn. I've stayed in both, they are conveniently located, clean are resonably priced [across from one another]. The Fairfield is 1 bedroom suite with kitchenette.
Hope this helps...

The Strater in Durango is good, lots of atmosphere.Haven't stayed at the Palmer but believe it would also be a good choice.
The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs has a bit more than a touch of luxury. It's very nice but very large which IMO detracts from the ambience.

If you like bed and breakfasts, In Durango we stayed at the Apple Orchard Inn and loved it -- one of the best places I have stayed. They have 4 rooms in the mail house and 6 individual cottages. The grounds are lovely -- just beautiful gardens.
