Club/Bar suggestion for Boston
Hello, I'll be in Boston for the weekend and plan on meeting up with a friend fairly late in the evening. We'd either like to go out dancing or for a late dinner at a fun restaurant. Can anyone make any suggestions? We are leaning toward dancing and while we like current music we prefer to stay away from straight hiphop and/or euro-techno pop type clubs. Appreciate the help!!

Actually, I've never been to Boston but there is a popular "webcam" that shows you what's going on at a Boston club called the Rack Room, www.livewave.com/viewer.asp?feed=29
If you check it out during the day it won't look like much, just a bunch of pool tables and a lunchtime crowd, but in the evenings they have live bands and dancing, and it looks like a pretty happening place. By the way, the same webcam site has a great camera perched with a great view of Newport/Narragansett bay, anyone interested in what the city of Newport RI looks like might want to check it out.

Macy--
There are some clubs on Landsdowne, but they are what you call in your post "euro-techno", with one or two exceptions. Atlas Dance plays top40. Jake Ivory's is a fun piano bar--no dancing really though. Try going to "The Alley". It is located on Boylston Street near it's intersection with Tremont St. There are numerous clubs/bars here that are probably what you are looking for--Sugar Shack and The Big Easy. For a fun restaraunt, try Fire & Ice on either Clarendon or Berkeley (can't remember which street-sorry!). They have a large "food bar" where you pick out what you want and then they cook it on a big "grill" in the middle of hte restaraunt for you. Hope this helps!

Hi Macy. As mentioned in previous posts, the two main dance club areas are Landsdowne Street (adjacent to Fenway Park) and the Boylston Street Alley. In particular the Landsdowne Street bars have theme nights with different music on a particular week night. You may want to check out www.bostonphoenix.com for club offerings. As to a fun restaurant I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for but Sonsie on Newbury Street is always a good choice for people watching. The food is pretty good, too. Wear a chic black outfit and you'll fit right in.
I hope this helps a little. Welcome to Boston!

Another fun restaurant if you like tapas is Tapeo on Newbury Street. I think it's between Fairfield and Gloucester? It's a great, fun place. I don't think they take reservations and they usually tell you it's a really long wait, but they lie! Put your name in, get a pitcher of sangria and before you know it, you'll be up!
