Me and my husband will be in San Francisco from Aug 15-20th. We are wanting to try and find a city tour, that includes Lombard Street and Postcard Row. Or at least one of them. Any suggestions.

Have you checked Greyline's website? They do a lot of city tours all over the world.

The Hyde Street Cable Car will take you right to Lombard St. I doubt if any group tours will actually drive down Lombard or even let you off to walk down & back yourself.

Take the (free) SF City Guides tour of "Landmark Victorians of Alamo Square" to see Postcard Row, other Victorians, and (if you are lucky) go into the interior of one of the mosts spectacular Victorians in The City. www.sfcityguides.org

Haven't taken the city tour, only know this company is reliable.

My best wishes to your husband, how fit will he be to walk around? With a broken foot, it's very important to keep it up to reduce swelling.

How is he on the stairs? There will be a lot of going out of the bus down I believe 3 stairs, then coming back up.

We took the Grayline Bus tour (3 hour tour) and were very pleased with it. It met our needs at the time and the guide was excellent.

We had talked with someone in Carmel before we made it up to San Francisco and she said that they had gone on a limousine/car tour which had been arranged by the hotel and were extremely happy with it. (may be the way you would want to do, but she didn't know the name of the company) She said that it didn't cost them much more than a bus tour and took them anywhere they wanted to go. We asked about it at the desk when we got to our hotel (I'm sure they do this frequently at most if not all the hotels there) and he checked for the next day. They had an afternoon time available (which appears to be the easier time to get), but it was more than we wanted to pay. At that point, while he was talking to the tour guy they were willing to come down to our price (probably because the time wasn't booked yet). We really didn't want to have a set time in the middle of the day (which is when we ended up going, spur of the moment, anyway).


The bus did not go to Lombard Street (went by it, but didn't stop) or Alamo Square (Painted Ladies) -- 2 places I really wanted to see. So we went to both on our own the day we left (had a car).

We actually had a lady in a wheelcar on our bus tour, so they are equipped for that in case anyone needs to know.

Just read a very good review of the SF postcard tour with Mr. Toads. Just thought I'd pass it on.

maj- I was just in Golden Gate Park and saw a Mr. Toad's tour car. and it looked like a nice small tour so I was going to suggest it to the OP. It looked much nicer than the big tour buses and it probably can go places that they can't.
