City Museum & Arch

Hello! We will be in St. Louis Sat. 7/2- Wed. 7/6 and plan to include visits to the City Museum and Arch (among other things). I'm looking for suggestions about the best times to go to these attractions to avoid the biggest crowds. I realize, however, that it will be a holiday weekend and perhaps every hour of every day will be busy!

For the City Museum, is it worth going right away on the evening of the 2nd to be able to experience the flashlight night or is that a peak visit time?

For the Arch, we do not have interest in the 4th of July festivities so I assume we should just wait until the 5th or 6th to go. Is it best to get there right away in the morning or wait until evening?

Thanks in advance for any advice you'd like to share! We are really looking forward to our visit!

I admit that since I live in St. Louis, I never go to visit the Arch. It is, however, certainly a worthwhile thing to do. The 4th of July "Fair St. Louis" events that are on the Arch grounds seems to be July 2, 3, 4 this year. http://celebratestlouis.org/fair-saint-louis/

I would suggest that if your goal is to go up the Arch, you save that activity until after the Fair is over and I think going earlier in the morning would be both less crowded and cooler. You can make online reservations for the Arch here http://www.nps.gov/jeff/index.htm

I think the City Museum is always busy. The flashlight event sounds fun. Perhaps you could call them and ask how busy the flashlight evening tend to be. http://www.citymuseum.org/home.asp

PS
We are coming into the city today and I still haven't made reservations yet because I can't get a good "feel" for where to stay with my family...
We plan to do as much as possible... from Six Flags to Grant's Farm to the Basilica to Cahokia Mounds!
Would love hotel suggestions!!!

Price range? Hmmm. You'd like the Central West End; the Chase if that's in your budget would be high on my list.

The Drury Inns tend to be nice medium price, and they have one near our gem of a Forest Park and also downtown.

Oh, wait, just saw the 4th of July part. Downtown might be a little tight then.

If you can do Hotwire.com, looking now for your dates, assuming 2 adults and 2 children, there's a 3.5 star downtown for $78 that looks like a good deal. On their maps I'd stay downtown, Lafayette Sq, Forest Pk/Clayton.
