Cinco de Mayo-wherever you are
Buenos Dias!
Cinco de Mayo is almost here! Does your town celebrate? What will you be doing ?
We used to go to a place down in the Village in NYC and have a Mexican feast..since then the restaurant - El Coyote-is gone.. But I have fond memories of Margaritas and Mariachi music. We also went to El Parador..ole~
Here in Portland, we will have a really fun celebration..
you can look in at www.pova.com and if you are lucky, you will be here on Cinco de Mayo ~

We have local Mexican restaurants in our area that usually have mariachi bands that day. We prefer to stay home and cook our own tacos and fajitas. Strawberry margaritas are our beverage of choice. We put on our Mexican Fiesta CD that we bought in Cancun and enjoy!

Does my town celebrate? No. Do they celebrate the Battle of Yorktown in Puebla? I doubt it. Why would the Battle of Puebla be celebrated in the US? Could it be that some are happy not to have France on our southern border?! Then again, the reality is that for many celebrants in the US this is just an excuse to have a beer, much like St. Patrick's Day.

HI..
Cinco De Mayo is an Americanized holiday..it really has no bearing to true Mexicans past border towns because it is the Liquor Companies who are promoting it..
September 16th is their true Independence Day..
May 1st is a Labor Day of sorts for them..
But that has never stopped me for having a couple of Marg's and enjoying soem great Mexican Food anytime of the day or month..Enjoy!

Hola amigos! If you are in Hawaii you can find the biggest Cinco de Mayo party in town at Aloha Tower Marketplace (www.alohatower.com). All the restaurants will have Corona on special to complement their special menus. We'll have mariachis, Mexican dancing, salsa lessons and more!
