Christmas Parade in LA

Hi, Am coming to LA at Christmastime (from Australia). I have been told that there is a Christmas Parade with floats etc in LA on December 1, and that this is quite amazing. Can anyone tell me if that is the case? Where and when it is held? Any other info? Thankyou!

It sounds like you are confusing this with the Rose Parade in Pasadena near LA, it's a huge floats parade where all vehicles are covered with flowers and plants.

They show it on TV on January 1 (not December) and it's amazing, you must see it at least once in a lifetime. The parade starts early at 8 am.

The Hollywood Christmas Parade:

The City of Hollywood cancelled the parade last year for economic reasons. But the show went on when the City of Los Angeles picked up the parade costs. The City of L.A. is attempting to keep the tradition alive, but their sponsorship is now in jeopardy due to deep budget cuts. If the parade is held this year and keeps to its usual date, it would happen on Sunday, November 29th.

Manhattan Beach (where I live) puts on a holiday fireworks show, this year on Sunday, December 13th, at 6:30 p.m. If you want to watch the fireworks, you should plan on arriving in downtown Manhattan Beach by 3/4 p.m. because several streets are closed around that time and parking becomes incredibly difficult. The fireworks are set off from our pier, and the street leading to the pier becomes amphitheater seating for the show. You could browse the shops and eat an early dinner.

There are boat parades both in Marina Del Rey and Newport Harbor. It is fun to see the boats all decorated.
