Christmas-Florida Gulf Coast

What can we expect weather-wise, and what area would you recommend for an active family (taking into account that a beach vacation won't be guaranteed). The islands (Santa Maria, Gaspadrilla) sound great, but what do we do if it's not beach weather?

Anna,
The FL. gulf coast covers alot of territory! Sanibel would be a lovely place for a visit...and you could also visit the Edison and Ford Home while in Ft. Myers.Or how about north of there to St. Pete, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach, Indian Rocks Beach and the Clearwater areas? Heading south...visit ritzy Naples 45 min...or keep right on going and get down to Key West. Gulf coast has lots of possibilities...

Regarding Florida's weather in December, it dips into the 40s only a few times during the winter, even at night. Average temps at night are well into the 60s. Most December daytime temperatures are in the 70 degree range.
