Christmas at Disney - are we mad?

You couldn't pay me enough to go to Disney at Christmas. The park is beautiful at that time of year with all their exquisite decorations and all, but it is a mass of humanity that I prefer to avoid. Especially if my kids were small and tended to get cranky when they had to wait hours to ride something.

As a resident of Orlando, let me assure you, you would be MAD to come during Christmas! The park is beautifully decorated, but the crowds are unbearable. An alternative - come in January, AFTER New Years. The crowds are gone and the lines are smaller and it's more enjoyable.

I go every year the week of Christmas and on Xmas Day, I go to places like Downtown Disney, the different hotels and stay away from the parks. It's gorgeous there. Nothing like it, except NYC. You'll enjoy yourselves. Xmas is all about people and getting into the spirit, you wouldn't want to go to an empty place. ENJOY! Live it up! You only live once!

Hi Lottie,
The past two years, my parents decided to go about two weeks before Christmas because they were tired of the crowds and heat the summer brings. They said it is the best time to go and have vowed never to go any other time of year again. The crowds are not so big, the lines are not long, and what they love most is all the Christmas decorations. They said even the weather was perfect. Warm enough to wear shorts and t-shirts during the day but not humid or hot in any way. They also said it is much easier to get a good spot for all the parades and fireworks shows. My boyfriend and I went this past June and as soon as we got there I wished I would have listened to my Mother!

Christmas week is packed. Early Dec. is low season, good prices, all the Christmas decorations are up, christmas parades etc... and not bad crowds, I'd go then and avoid the high prices and crowds. 2nd week of jan is also wonderful, temperature and crowd-wise. We've been at Disneyland twice around Christmas and it was so packed you couldn't walk without being squished by other people, it's just packed wall to wall.

Betty provides you with good advice. As a resident of Orlando we do all we can to avoid the congestion from December 22, or 23 through the first weekend in January. If you can arrange to come any time after Thanksgiving weekend through December 20th I would recommend that time frame. There are great hotel savings. The parks offer their Florida Resident Specials during that period because the crowds are so low. The parks are decorated for Christmas immediately after Thanksgiving and it is true that the atmosphere is lovely. Have a nice time.

Depends on the weather. We went several years ago - it was COLD!!! Several days of below 32 wind chills. The parks were crowded, but not nearly as insane as we thought they would be. We went last year for Thanksgiving. It was not bad for crowds, and the weather fluctuated between cool & hot. Spring break was about the same as Thanksgiving. If you really want to see all the decorations ( and they are well worth it), go in early December. Bear in mind, weather can be cool that time of year.
