Choice between 1 week in Kauai or Maui
Hello,
My wife and I are planning a one week trip to Hawaii in the middle of August. We don't want to really do any of the island hopping and would rather just visit one island on this trip.
We really want something quiet and tranquil. We just want to relax and enjoy the scenery. We are in our 30's and our active so we don't mind search for the beautiful nature that is available in Hawaii.
Any suggestions or experiences regarding Kauai or Maui would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your input.

I feel sorry for you. What a decision to make. August is great for kauai as earlier in year it rains and rains and rains. Thus, the incredible vegetation etc. You have the princeville hotels that are nothing short of spectacular with the Na Pali coast that is beyond amazing. Make sure you Capt. Zodiac up the coast on a day trip. Feels like a different planet. Great beaches as well. Maui is drier but equally spectacular with it's volcano for sunrise and bicycling down all 10,000 feet. Great snoreking/ snubaing off molokini. Can't say enough about hana if you can stay there a night or two. Amazing hotels, both small and larger resorts. Sorry, but you really do have a difficult decision. goldee

Shame on you, indeed. You know that those posters really LOVE Kauai the most and are trying to steer you away from their "secret hideaway"! But I can honestly say, "MAUI!" with good conscience because it's my fave... Ahhhhh, clear conscience and a dirty martini make wonderful after work companions.
Actually, quiet + tranquil + relax + scenery = Kauai
Now if you want to put "swimmin' pools and movie stars" into the mix... Maui! And Haleakala crater, Iao Valley, Road to Hana, northwest Maui coast drive, Kahului swap meet, etc.......
