I have experienced the pony penning. The one thing to remember is that you have to be out there very early in the morning (around 5:30 am). It gets very crowded. There is a parade after the horses swim and then a carnival. You should try and book one of the hotels on Chincoteague because you can walk to the swim site. However, if you drive in, there is parking at the high school and a shuttle bus that will drive you to the site. For those fans of "Misty" it is very exciting to see an event portrayed in a book.

Misty of Chincoteague - an all time favorite book for 12 year old girls! I must have read it a million times.

You can also hire a boat to sit out in the water and watch the event, but I think they are expensive. You can get more information from the Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce.
