Damn, I had Running Scared but then thought maybe it was Detroit.

And of course, the obvious one... Chicago

This is not a movie, but a television show, and although only one particular part of Chicago is featured, the Lexington Hotel, it is filmed in Chicago . . . has anyone mentioned Geraldo's "The Mystery of Al Capone's Vaults"????? Sorry, couldn't resist!

"When Harry Met Sally" - That unforgettable scene where they are driving to New York from the University of Chicago. They are driving north on Lake Shore Drive. They have the beautiful Chicago skyline behind them.

And everyone who is familair with Chicago is scratching their heads saying, "They are going to New York by way of Canada?"

There is another Chicago movie where a car drives off the Marina Tower and plunges into the Cicago River. I thought it was a Steve McQueen movie, I'm not sure.

I believe the movie I was thinking of was "Code of Silence" with Chuck Norris.

Love Story, with Brooke Shields (in Hyde Park)
The Proof (Hyde Park)
Miracle on 34th Street (newer version, some indoor scenes filmed in apt bldg where I used to live in Hyde Pk with views of Jackson Pk out the window - supposed to have been in NYC on Central Pk)

"My Best Friend's Wedding" (Julia Roberts) was filmed throughout Chicago area and featured a whole sequence in the U.S. Cellular Field Women's Rooms.

My son and his friend also did extra work in two very forgettable baseball movies in 1991 or 1992, one was in the old Comiskey and the other was just when the new park opened. B grade comedies and I've forgottent their names.

Also "Eight Men Out" in 1988.

Planes Trains and Automobiles.......though outside of Chicago, a few scenes were shot in the
Woodstock Square. Groundhog day was also shot there.
Was told one of the Ocean 11, 12 or something had a few shots there also in a store.

The movie where Steve McQueen drove off Marina City was Bullit. Most of it was set in SF, but there were a couple scenes in Chicago. As I recall, there was also a scene around St. Mary's church in Uptown.

Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason also had a father-son chat in the garage at Marina City in Nothing in Common.

And don't forget Class where Andrew McCarthy went shopping on Michigan Avenue and had, um, er...an indiscreet moment in an elevator in Water Tower Place.

What is that movie that came out a couple of years ago with Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks? The Inlaws?

Only "The Fugitive" is actual chicago. Most movies have streets that don't exist, or have people who live in certain neighborhoods magically end up in walks downtown five miles away.

But in the Fugitive, the actors say, "He's in Pullman", they point to a map exactly at the pullman neighborhood, and the next shot is an honest to god storefront in Pullman.

In the fugitive, the cops are in a building that has a view of the white Wrigley clock tower, a view that actually exists. I've been on the floor, more or less.

Whoa, Citylights, you're a little off today. The earliest films made in Chicago go back to the days of the silents (late 1890s-1920)when Chicago was a leading film center.

ALso, the Steve McQueen film with many great Chicago scenes was "The Hunter," his last film (1980). You may remember the scenes of McQueen getting shot as he rode atop the roof of the El train, or when he drives a car off the parking garage level of Marina City.

To the OP: There's a Gene Hackman film called "The Package" where Chicago susbstitutes for Berlin! And the film of the musical, "Chicago," was actually shot in Toronto.

I know that many films were made in Chicago in the early days of the industry and don't know what I was thinking. I'm sure it couldn't have been painting all day with the windows closed.

I guess I'll also have to watch Bullit again. Is that the one with the car chase or the motorcycle chase or the other car chase? ;-)

Wasn't part of the Blues Brothers movie shot in Chicago?

Almost all of it was. They used something like 34 used Chicago police cars they got at auction.

An ironic and weird reality: the "mall" they used and drove through was Dixie Square about 5 miles or so SE of where I live. It was left empty and abandoned for literally decades until demolished and picked up into railroad car size dumpsters less than 2 years ago.

I work within 10 minutes of Joliet prison that Joliet Jake exited.

We actually got to see them filming "The Road to Perdition" with Tom Hanks. They had all period costumes and old cars and were coming across the bridge. We watched them shoot for 3 hours, the whole scene in the movie was about 5 seconds!

WOW - GREAT responses - Thanks.

I'm almost positive the movie I'm thinking about is the one Citylights mentioned, Straighttalk with Dolly Parton.

I think I vaguely remember a scene where she's walking along at night with James Woods by the waterfront and I think there's a bridge.

Now I just need to re-rent the movie and see if I can figure out where they are.

Two that I think weren't mentioned are "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and a scene from "The Untouchables" that was filmed in the great hall of Union Station.

Not sure about a night-time stroll, but I saw the beginning of Straight Talk recently and Dolly Parton was trying to retrieve some money she dropped between the cracks of the Michigan Avenue bridge.

North Michigan Avenue is also in the background during the funeral at the end of Backdraft where they "walk" to the cemetery and when Ferris Bueller's entourage is driving home at the end of the day. I guess that house with the all-glass garage must have been in Back of the Yards or Pilsen. ;-)

Nia Vardalos and John Corbett supposedly stroll on a footbridge along the Chicago waterfront in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but if you look behind them, you'll see the Bank of Montreal Building in Toronto.

The movie Chicago was not filmed in Chicago but in Montreal...not a movie but ER regularly has scenes of the city...
Also, Return to Me with David Ducovny (sp?) and Minnie Driver has great Lincoln Park scenes. The dad's restaurant is Twin Anchors in Lincoln Park.
