Chicago vs. New York "WICKED"

Hi, just wondering if anyone has seen/heard reviews on these 2 productions. I've sometimes read that for example: go see Phantom in London, much better than the NYC production, etc. Just curious. Thx!

I've seen Wicked in both. I saw the original two girls in NYC, so that performance ranked above Chicago's (especially Kristin Chenowith), but otherwise they are pretty much equal -- especially since the two "originals" are long gone from the New York production anyway.

But I do know what you mean. Having seen Phantom in several places -- the setting in the small traditional theatre in London way overpowered the other venues I'd seen it in.

NeoPatrick----I'm hijacking my own email just to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your NYC help!!!! I will get a trip report written one of these days.....but I'm pretty sure you were one of the "Muse Hotel" promoters.....and I could not have been happier with the hotel, the staff and the location. I even got upgraded to a junior suite (so no balcony....no venue for a cocktail party). I'm thinking of seeing Wicked in Chicago with hubby and friends, so was curious as to how it would play out for them, 'cus I LOVED the NY production. Thx again for all your help.

Oddly enough when we saw Wicked in Chicago there were understudies for BOTH female principles. But my fears were put to rest when they were both simply wonderful (I think I may have liked the Elpheba better than Idina Menzel).

Meanwhile I guess I should stop looking in the mail everyday for my invitation to that terrace cocktail party at The Muse. LOL. Glad you had fun.

Hey Collete, I'm the other Muse fan. I don't really believe you though. I'm pretty sure you had that cocktail party and just didn't invite me or Neo.

Have Seen Wicked in Chicago and loved it. You will not be disappointed. Of course, I have nothing to compare it to, having never seen it in NYC, but I plan to remedy that on Tuesday night, as we are flying to NY tomorrow morning. I will try to remember to come back here and answer your question when we get back. And since you've already hijacked your own thread once, I will hijack it briefly to thank all the fodorites who have answered the questions I never even had to ask for our upcoming trip. Looking forward to a really good (and chilly) time in NYC this week.

To answer your question, Wicked will be an absolute treat no matter which city. If you haven't purchased the cd yet, buy it so the music will be familiar. It will add a lot to your enjoyment.

I wanted to fly to London to see Idina open Wicked but couldn't swing it for last winter. Kristen is not coming back as Glinda, so other than those two, I wouldn't travel to one over the other for a production. All have been wonderful. Enjoy!

Starrsville!!! I'm so glad you wrote, because yes, I want to thank you too! (and I couldn't remember what for...until you again suggested purchasing the CD ahead of time....which I did....and it was a GREAT suggestion!) Also thx to you, I will definitely return to the Muse....the location was perfect!! Enjoy NYC Annam.....I had a WONDERFUL time (again, with help from all the fodorites), and Neo & Starrsville, try to get over the snub already!!! Annam, maybe I'll get my trip report posted before your return.....will be looking forward to yours! Check out the bathrooms @ the restaurant called SAPA......pretty awesome.....43 W. 24th St. www.sapanyc.com I didn't eat there, but was there on a Wed. happy hour, and had a large glass of Sauv.Blanc and 3 little spring rolls for $8.....just so I could check out the bathrooms.....it was worth it!! Also had a quick sushi at SEO, near the U.N. 249 E. 49th St (betw. 2nd & 3rd Ave). BEAUTIFUL tea garden room in the back of the restaurant. All windows looking out onto a gorgeous Japanese garden. Have fun!
