Chicago Triathlon - Help!

I've been training for this tri and just learned it's closed! Can anyone with ACCURATE info and experience with this race tell me if transfer of entires is possible, where to look for one, how to do it and how much time I have left do so, if any.

Thanks!

I have a Chicago area friend who's participated in the event and might be able to answer your questions. Email me and I'll let you know how to contact him.

triguy,
We're having a certified one July 28 in Louisville this year- first of it's kind in our city with open water swim in Ohio River.Last I heard, entries are still being taken. Here's the link

I understand your frustration! I've trained and done many tris , but there are a few where you have to be early in line to get that registration in!

Dear Triguy,
Mrs. T's triathlon has been filled for months. My husband competes in Mrs. T's every year and barely made entry in April.
When a friend of ours tried to transfer entries last year for Mrs. T's, she was told absolutely not. We phoned a friend at Mrs. T's to try to get her in found out that the only way to enter is to apply early.
You can try to contact Capri Events but this triathlon just gets more popular and bigger each year. It is actually turning off many avid triathletes from Mrs. T's because of all the congestion and people that enter without proper training and preparation.
Good luck and I hope I'm wrong about my info.

Check the www.Caprievents.com website. If you enter another triathlon (Harbor Lights), you may qualify for one of 100 slots in Mrs. T's. Kind of a long shot though.....

Triguy -
As a general rule, transfers are allowed - the post indicating that they aren't is wrong. However, it's a little lat in the game, but you could get lucky.

Don't bother with the Capri Events website - it will be of no help at this point. I spoke to another triathloner this morning when I was swimming at Ohio St. Beach who just bought someone's entry and transfered it on Wednesday. Here's what you need to do - and fast:

1) Check the message boards at www.chicagoaa.com and www.chicagotriclub.com for people looking to sell their entries.

2) If you can still find someone, call Capri Events at 773.404.2372. You won't get a warm body but if you leave a message letting them know you want to transfer an entry and give them all the info they will call you back. The stated deadline to do this was July 1 but I have it on good authority (from a few people) that they don't need to have all the money turned in until 7/15. If they let you do it, you will have to pay a $25 fee on top of buying the entry from someone else. Time is of the essence. They also may simply say no next week. Good luck.

Harbor Lights is also a good suggestion - you might get lucky there.

Why would anyone willingly subject themselves to this?

Hey, just because you can't commit yourself to train for such a tremendous goal, don't criticize people who are willing to take the time and effort to push their physical and mental limits.
Get off your Lazy Boy recliner and don't be so jealous these athletes.

Can anyone recommend a hotel near the triathlon start/finish area (Monroe Harbor/Columbus and Balbo)? Thanks

The Hilton or Palmer House. Most of the triathletes stay at the Hilton and that's where they have registration and dinner.

HelpMe -

The above post is inaccurate. The expo is at the Hyatt Regency, not the Hilton (which I'm sure you found out when you registered). It's the host hotel and the location is fine for getting to the start - just start following all the people with the bikes. There is no dinner. Chris might be confused based on things he's heard about the Marathon - and even that race hasn't held its expo at the Hilton in a few years.

Dear Try This,
I'm sorry if I posted inaccurate info but I accompanied my husband who has done Mrs. T's for two years to the Hilton on Michigan Avenue. He had to register there and get his number and timing device for Mrs. T's.

Try his is correct, Chris is wrong. Check out www.caprievents.com before she creates any more confusion.
