Chicago to Boston.. driving trip... ideas

HI everyone
We are currently in the USA and contemplatng the next leg of our holiday.

We are contemplating driving from Chicago to Boston, but do not know if this is an interesting drive or not! We could spread the drive out over 4 days or so. We are interested in photography, short hikes, sighseeing and this is our first time in the States.

Any suggestions would be welcomed. We unexpectedly have an extra few days spare and thus the last minute planning!

Cheers

Cathy

Where would you be heading afterwards? Where do you fly out of for your return trip? Does the 4 days include the time for Boston?

We can easily spend the 4 days driving and looking around, and then add a few days for Boston. We will the look at going to New York, perhaps by train if we leave the car in Boston.

I've driven this and wouldn't want to do it again.Lots of truck traffic on the Interstate highways. But, you could swing north into NY State, to the Buffalo area and see Niagara Falls. Or visit more of New England before Boston. The Berkshires in MA, or Southern Vermont, or head to the coast north or south of Boston.

I have been all over the US (having traveled in all but 11 states). One of the most beautiful drives I've ever been on was traveling east on I-80 through Pennsylvania. (I was driving Chicago to New York.)

The expansive green valleys; the lush forests, the Pocono mountains.. just beautiful. (This was summer.)

There are many places along the way you could stop. Much of I-80 runs through state forest land. I just found the drive incredibly beautiful.

Here is a website for PA, if you are interested:

(BTW, the Poconos are quite famous for their honeymooners. Many romantic hideaways here.)

I highly recommend the drive east on I-80, at least in Pennsylvania.

Have a wonderful trip!
