Chicago L question
Thinking of taking the L to the Field Museum on Saturday. Museum’s Web site suggests taking the #12 bus from the Roosevelt L stop. Is that necessary, or can we just walk the half-mile from the station to the museum? Is it a pedestrian-friendly area? There will be three of us – two adults and a 7-year-old.
Thanks in advance!

Depending where in Chicago you are starting your trip, you may want to consider this option. The CTA bus # 146 runs along Michigan Ave North of the Chicago River and along State Street south of the River and stops directly across from the Museum.

We'd be coming from the Union Station area. The L is more for fun and novelty, actually -- we have buses here at home and could just take a cab to the museum's front door, too. Sounds like a nice walk from the L stop to the museum. We love to walk in the city, and it's supposed to be a beautiful day, so we'll give it a try! Thanks to both of you for your help!

Walk. It will be quicker even with a 7 year old. The bus does not go straight to the Museum. Brings you down past Soldier Field then back up. The one I had taken didn't even stop near the Museum, it dropped us off at the Planetarium so it was still a long walk back to the Museum.
