Chicago Hotels - Museums
We would like to stay in a hotel that's near to museums - either Field Museum & Shedd Aquarium or the Museum of Science & Industry. We aren't at all interested in being near shopping, and all the hotels seem to brag about their closeness to stores. Can anyone help? Thanks

There really aren't any hotels situated near the musueums, other than the Art Institute- which in on N. Michigan Ave. The museums you mentioned are part of the "musueum campus," which is set apart from the downtown area, by the lake. They're all a quick bus or cab ride away from the downtown hotels, though. If you have a real phobia of being too close all that shopping, you might want to avoid the North Michigan Ave area (400 to 990 N. Michigan, approximately), and focus on hotels in the 'Loop' (the downtown business district). But that area might be a little dead in the evenings. If I were you, I'd just choose the hotel that sounds the most appealing - you'll be relatively close to the museum campus either way.

Try the beautiful Swissotel at 323 E. Wacker!!! Basically in Grant Park...
Centrally located 3 blocks off of N. Michican Avenue, where the River and Lake converge. A 10 minute stroll through the park to the Art Institute and near, but not IN the shopping district. Spectacular views!!! Check out their web site...www.swissotel-chicago.com

All above are correct but the Swissotel has just become home to the JAZZ radio station and features the best high end Sunday brunch in the area with ice sculptures and endless choices. The radio station is now (they moved just last month)on the Swissotel's 42nd floor and I've heard they has some of the best lake views available in Chicago.
You will definitely want to be near Grant Park if you want to stay away from the shopping. You can get public transportation to Science and Industry Museum there too, quite easily. You probably wouldn't want to stay near the Science and Industry Museum, unless you wanted to stay on U.of C.campus. But that would not give you easy access to the other museums or to the downtown area restaurants. Hyde Park has a lot of restaurants also, and some fantastic Thai ones, in particular.
