Chicago Hotels (budget holidays)
I´ll be getting to Chicago at the beginning of July. It´s my first time there ( and in the USA)
Could you suggest any low-price downtown-located hotel(though appropiate for a young Latin American girl)?
I won´t have a car and I need to be near the main attractions. I´ll stay for 4 or 5 days.
I need yr help and point of view (online hotel guides are not always illustrative of what one´s going to find). Thks.

My kids enjoyed staying at the Days Inn Lakeshore Drive. It's not fancy, but the breakfast was good and it was right across from the Navy Pier- which the kids loved. We took water taxis to the Aquarium and Planetarium. I think our room was about 80 bucks last summer.

Virginia,
We will be in Chicago in August and used Priceline.com to get the Westin on North Michigan's "Magnificent Mile" for $75 a night.
Good location and if you like walking like we do, you can walk to most of the sights, even tho it is near busses, the El(subway) and pretty inexpensive taxis.
Great city. Great people. Cubs????

Forgot to warn...if you go thru Priceline or Hotwire, et al. once you agree to the room, you are charged and if for some reason you can't make it, you are pretty much out of luck.
We've stayed at the Lennox and it was nice. Great location, too. Only had one elevator working at the time so we got to know all of our neighbors while we were waiting!

You might check out the youth hostel that's $31.75 per night. It might be a nice way for you to meet people if you are traveling solo. I've heard that it is quite nice for a youth hostel and it's only a couple of years old. I believe that you share a room with several other women and share bathroom facilities. Here's a link
www.hichicago.org.
It's at the corner of Congress & Wabash, one block from Michigan Avenue (although not the shopping section), a couple blocks from the Art Institute, within walking distance of the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium and Adler Planetarium

I second Kris's suggestion. We walked by the hostel the other day and, at least from the outside, it is beautiful. There was a big article in the Tribune when it opened. It is right by Roosevelt University, the Auditorium Theater, the Music Mart, tons of great attractions.
