chicago hotel

My husband and I just stayed at the Peninsula Hotel in Chicago. We want to take our children (15 & 13)in June. What is a good hotel with room for 4 of us and in a great location like the Peninsula but with the cost no more than approximately 300/ night?

There are many suite-type hotels around North Michigan Ave which are well suited for families. The Embassy Suites on Columbus Drive is half-way between the Mag Mile and Navy Pier and has a pool and breakfast included. There's another Embassy Suites at 700 N State. In addition, there's Homewood Suites and Hilton Garden Inn on E Grand and Hampton Inn & Suites on Illinois Street.

There's MANY. Near the River is best location, IMHO. Pick any of those. If you are seeing shows or doing Museums with the kids more than N. Michigan type venues, you may want to try one of the more boutique hotels LOOP location. Not as high end and fun for kids to be in the midst of theatre etc.

Hotel Allegro is attached to the Cadillac Palace Theatre. House of Blues - some circuses the kids may like etc. If the kids haven't seen Wicked, take them.

We always try to stay at the Embassy Suites on Columbus when we go to Chicago with our children. It's a contemporary high rise building with a huge contemporary/minimalistic lobby. Great location between Navy Pier and Michigan Avenue. There is a mulit-plex movie theater next door as well as Lucky Strike, an upscale family friendly bowling alley/pool hall and restaurant. You can rent bikes at nearby Navy Pier (or Millenium Park) and ride up and down the lakefront.

We don't care for the Embassy Suites on State St. as much. They have poor service and the concierge is almost never there. The Homewood Suites is a little dark and not as well located.
