Chicago History Museum New Name and Revamped Opens This Weekend
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up and a real find. This place at 1601 N. Clark is so easily accessible from most tourist lodging and it looks dynamite interactive.
It opens this weekend (free) but will be only $12 for adults and under 12 free. They have a 5 senses exhibit where you get to experience Chicago with each and much more.
They have the signs, electric street cars I used to ride- and lots more vintage. It looks like it would be a stitch. They even have a re-created Marshall Field's window, and "stuff" from the great Chicago manufacturers, like Wrigley gum, Morton Salt, Schwinn, Lincoln Logs. Not only for kids, looks to be Boomers' heaven.

When I was a kid it was always my favorite field trip when we went to the
Chicago Historical Society. I am so excited that they have remodeled and are re opening.
Wish I could get there this weekend.
Be sure to stop by Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders 2121 N Clark.
Yum. check their hours...cash only I think too.

bags are packed, THANK YOU. I've figured out a way to combine this with Oven Grinders- now I have a hedge to get my oldest set of Grandkids and son /spouse to go en masse. They are addicted to Oven Grinders.
Sounds like trip that might be nice with a combo to some Christmas windows when I have time off in Dec.

wsoxrebel, we miss you too.
Didn't you post once about Ed & Joe's pizza in Tinley Park?
If you are the one, I want you to know that they have live entertainment now and it is REALLY getting to be "the thing".

We visited the new Chicago History Museum yesterday. The last time I was there was around 1990, when we lived very close by. I think they've done a really nice job--nice space and interesting exhibits. The children's sensory exhibit appeared to be closed, but that may have been because we tried to go in close to the museum's closing time at 4:30. For visitors to Chicago, be sure to include this on your list of things to do.

We combined it with a relatively brief walk through the Lincoln Park Zoo (free) to enjoy the fall colors, a walk around our former Old Town neighborhood, and a nice dinner at Bistrot Margot on Wells, just a few blocks from the museum.
