Chicago Greek Town

We will be in Chicago for the weekend of June19. We will take the Acela train from Baltimore there and back..so dinner taken care of.

We may have decided on North Pond for one and then thought of Greek town for Friday. Any suggestions? I don't want 5 star..but otherwise price not too important. Authenticity, fresh food or good atmospshere.

It's been a few years since I've been there but I'd highly recommend Greek Islands Restaurant, 200 S. Halsted Street. My uncle took me there when I first moved to Chicago and I continued to go back, every chance I got until I moved away. The food is great and pretty authentic. Enjoy Chicago!

I've eaten at several restaurants and they all offer a similar menu. My fav is Athena at 212 S Halsted because they have a large outdoor seating area where you can see the skyline while you eat.

Greek Islands has a sidewalk cafe and Pegasus at 130 S Halsted has a rooftop deck, but neither are as large.

We had dinner in Greektown several years ago, and I don't remember the name of the restuarant. I do remember that we thought the meal was good but not outstanding. We also expected Greektown to be more than just a few restaurants mainly at an uninteresting intersection, and it wasn't nice enough to eat outside. Overall, we thought we would have been better off putting the cabfare, which wasn't cheap, into a better restuarant to which we could have walked.

Thanks a lot. I was too late for North Pond, so have made a reservation at Salpicon.
The menu at Greek Islands is enormous! However,it looks right for a casual night out.Haven't looked at Athena yet, but I like the idea of an outside eating area if the weather is right.

My barber in Boston (Greek) recommended Greek Islands. The people we were visiting were Athena regulars -- until they tried Greek Islands.

Another vote here for Greek Islands from a Chicago native.

And another one. Although we usually eat at the Greek Islands in Lombard as we live nearby. I believe the menu is the same though.

We ate at Greek Islands Restaurant on our first night as we were tired. Place was really hopping with lots of people outside, so glad I had made a reservation.
I expected it to be mediocre...not so. Great food...super service and a lovely experience.
Thanks all!

Taxi cabs seemed cheap to us mscarls..although we did walk back. Chicago is a wonderful city!
