cheapo cabs, from DC to BWI?
hi y'all
anyone have any luck finding cheap transport from metro DC (fairfax) to BWI?
I usually am lucky enough to have a friend take me, but, it's Xmas - everyone is out & if they are not they would be working when I have to leave. I literally have never had to take 'hired transport' to BWI (of course I usually fly out of Dulles, but...)
any ideas?
thanks..
Beth

Try Super Shuttle. I think it's 1-800-BlueVan or supershuttle.com. I've never taken it to BWI, but from Arlington to Dulles it's about $20. I think there's also a train from Union Station, but Super Shuttle will pick you up at your door. There are a couple other similar companies, but I've never used them. Good luck.

I've heard commercials for an express bus service that Metro runs from the Greenbelt station to BWI - the schedule is on their website at www.wmata.com.
Of course, if you can get to a Metro station, taking the subway to Union Station and then the MARC train to BWI might be quicker, even if it costs a little bit more.

Taking the commuter train from BWI to Union station is by far the cheapest way to go - about $6.00. The problem is that it only runs weeks days, and less frequently on non-rush hours. I beleive it's called the MARTA (?). Don't confuse this with Amtrack, which will set you back about $20!

Hi Beth. I've used Supershuttle before & am using them again tomorrow. They charge around $30 from DC to BWI (I would guess maybe $32 or $34 from Fairfax). They pick you up right at your door. It's about half the price of a cab. They pick you up about 3 hours or so before your flight.
The least expensive way to go is to take the metro to Union Station and then take the MARC train to BWI rail station (a little over $5) and then the free shuttle van to the airport. However, that is less convenient and can take longer because it requires several changes and if you are schlepping luggage it's a pain. Plus, the MARC trains only run at certain dates and times. Amtrak also runs between Union Station and BWI rail station but it costs so much more that it's not worth it (better to take the Supershuttle).

I too vote for the MARC train. We used it many times last week and it was awesome. Our stop was the BWI stop and it's about 30 minutes from Union Station in DC to the BWI stop. The free shuttle is always waiting outside the train station to get you to the airport. It's about a five minute ride to the airport. The MARC train ride is $5 one way or $8.75 roundtrip. The ticket can be used anytime. Due keep in mind the train does not run on the weekend.
