Cheapest way from Jersey City hotel to Manhattan?
DH and I are taking DD 16 and 3 of her high school friends to NYC for their spring break next week. We are driving from Ohio and staying at the Doubletree Suites in Jersey City. If the weather is nice, I anticipate we'll leave the hotel in the mornings and spend all day in Manhattan, ending after our Broadway shows. However, if the weather is bad, we might have to venture back to the hotel to dry off, etc.
In either case, does anyone know the cheapest way to get 6 people from Jersey City to Manhattan?
Thanks so much,
Karen

PATH Train. You're a block from the Pavonia Newport Path station. You can catch trains to the West Side of Manhattan as far north as 34th Street or downtown to the World Trade Center.

On WTC station trains take the Hoboken train. On trains that start and end at 34th Street, take the Journal Square trains.
You are also very close to the light rail that can take you into Hoboken which has numerous restaurants and shops.

The Path train from Newport/Pavonia stop is $ 1.75 per person ea way to and from Manhattan. The station should be a short walk from your hotel or thet may offer a van service there.
It wil take you midtown as far as 33rd Street (Macy's)or a separate train can take you to the Financial center (WTC) stop downtown.
From there you can walk or take a taxi to your destinations or ride the NYC ( MTA) subway.
In either case you must purchase a fare card from vending machines in Jersey City to cover your fare. Some vending machines also sell the MTA Metro fare card so you can load that up as well.
You can also drive thru the Holland Tunnel (The $8 cash toll is paid heading into New York. Westbound to New Jersey is always free.)
The tunnel will drop you off near Canal Street in Lower Manhattan.
You can either park in a garage in that area or drive up to the mid town area and park there.
A google search of parking garages will locate a bunch in either area.
I would not drive into NY before 10:00 am on a weekday to allow the traffic to clear.
In any case it will not be inexpensive travelling with a large group so you may want to weigh your options carefully.

Here's the PATH map. http://www.panynj.gov/path/schedule.html The station you'll be using is Pavonia so note which of the lines you can use and which require transfers. You'll also see a clickable link on the left for fares. You can buy a multi-trip pass that reduces the fare per trip to $1.30. Figure out whether you'll all be traveling together all the time so you know whether one 40 trip ticket or several of the smaller ones is best for you. Note what time the last train departs.

The way I read this fare chart, yes, there's no limit to the number of people who could use that card. http://www.panynj.gov/path/fares.html
Only the cards with asterisks after them are for 1 person at a time. Those are the unlimited ride tickets.
