I've heard agents say that May and early december are good times. I know last year one of the charter companies was running a special all summer long to Hawaii from Detroit with some great rates. Mostly Oahu though. I think it was worryfreevacations.com. They leave from different cities. I don't think they've started the sale yet this year.

We booked in March for our trip this October. Got direct flights through Continental from Newark, NJ for $650 each. It makes me feel better booking in advance than waiting until a few weeks before departure. Good luck. Check out orbitz.com and look at different dates. That may help you.

I read about airtohawaii.com on this forum and I just used them to book an October flight for $261 less than the price listed by Hawaiian Air. I might have got an even better fare if I waited until August to book, but I hate to take the chance that the flight I want won't be available (my husband is already booked on the flight with FF miles).

Spring and fall are good times, wonderful weather. I've had good luck just watching the ads for the "normal" range of airlines, United, Hawaiian, etc. They will start running specials shortly before your flight time, i.e., March is a good time to look for May to early June flights, August is a good time to watch for the fall specials.
