Cheapest Oakland airport transport?

I'm arriving into Oakland airport at 11:30pm on Sunday night...to late to use the BART, unfortunately. I've heard that taxis into SF are VERY expensive, and the cheapest transport into the city for my family of four is $70. Ouch. Any other ideas out there?

I don't live in Oakland but if it's that late, maybe it would make more sense to stay at an airport hotel (if they're not too gross) and take BART into SF in the morning.

Another alternative is to look into a one day car rental. You might end up paying for one night's parking at your hotel but you'd have the full day to return the car to a downtown SF location.

It's been a while since I've taken a cab from SF to Oakland airport, but I don't recall it being more than $45 or $50. They have shuttles as well, that probably cost about $15 each, so a cab would be a better deal.

Is it really too late to use BART or is it too late that you don't want to use BART? The schedules for the trains you'd use still run after 11:30.

You can use the trip planner to see which train to use. http://www.bart.gov/stations/tripPla...ripPlanner.asp

I took a taxi from OAK to Berkeley yesterday, it was $40 for a 15 minute ride. I was Horrified.

Unfortunately, I think a shuttle service may cost something similar. The only way to find out is to call.

There is a list of shuttle services on www.sfgate.com. click Bay Area traveller and then transportation. You'll get a comprehensive list.

Good luck.

How 'street wise are you', male or female, I would respect my wellbeing, and recognise, the OAK airport is not in the safest area. I think I would stay at the Oakland Airport Hilton, an then travel in the light of day to my intrests.I wish you safe happiness.

I think it actually is too late to be assured of catching BART. They'll be at the gate at 11:30, but they'll still have to get off the plane, go to the bathroom, and collect luggage, not to mention trying to catch AirBART's shuttle to the Coliseum station.

I would recommend AGAINST spending the night in Oakland, as it will be more expensive than just going to SF by the time you pay for transportation TO the hotel, pay for the hotel and thenpay for transit from the hotel TO BART or the other transit option of your choice.

Another possible option is to call limo services and see what kind of quotes you can get. That might be cheaper.
