Because your other thread mentions the words "fireplace" and "hidden", my suggestion is Josie in Santa Monica. www.josierestaurant.com/entermain.htm

You can check availability, pictures, menus (of Josie and many other restaurants) on www.opentable.com

If you don't put the location in your question (or price range for that matter), no one will know how to answer you. California is an awfully big state.

Hi clifbob. TONS of great restaurants in L.A. Can you give a relative price range and location?

okay...I'm open to location...I will be seeing a play in hollywood before dinner....but I will drive to Santa monica...echo park ..sherman oaks..it's all good. I'd like to spend no more then 125...tax and tip included(give or take a few bucks)

Dan Tana's is one of our favorites..old school with lots of celeb's that go in hiding because its on the down low.
Excellent Italian food.

Have you posted on food forums such as Chowhound.com?
Seems to me that's a pretty good way to go since you're looking for a recommendation in your home town!
Last time I ate at Dan Tana's the celeb at the next table was Ron Jeremy....
